Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about free online planning poker with PlanITPoker.

PlanITPoker is a free browser-based planning poker tool for agile and Scrum teams. Below are answers to the questions we hear most often. For deeper guides on estimation techniques, visit our Guides section.

Is PlanITPoker free to use?

Yes. PlanITPoker is completely free. Create a room, share the link with your team, and start estimating without signing up or entering a credit card. The service is supported by advertising so agile teams can use planning poker without a subscription.

Do I need an account to join a planning poker session?

No account is required. Enter a nickname when you join a room, or pass a nickname in the invite link for a faster join experience. Session data is temporary and tied to the room, not to a user profile.

Which estimation decks are supported?

PlanITPoker supports Fibonacci story points (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34) and T-shirt sizes (XS–XL), plus question (?) and coffee break cards for clarification and short pauses.

Can remote teams use PlanITPoker?

Yes. PlanITPoker is built for distributed agile teams with real-time voting, shareable room links, QR codes, and vote distribution analytics. Everyone sees the same story and results at the same time, which keeps remote estimation fair and engaging.

How is planning poker different from giving one estimate?

Planning poker combines independent votes with a simultaneous reveal, which reduces anchoring bias and encourages discussion before the team commits to a story point value. One person speaking first often influences others; private voting avoids that.

What is planning poker used for in Scrum?

Scrum teams use planning poker during sprint planning and backlog refinement to estimate user stories in story points. The Product Owner presents each item, the team discusses scope, votes privately, reveals together, and agrees on an estimate before moving to the next story.

How long does estimation data stay on PlanITPoker?

Rooms are ephemeral. Session data (nicknames, stories, votes) is stored in Firebase Realtime Database only while the room is active. We do not offer long-term storage of estimation history; export results to your issue tracker after each session.
